From our Vélo Ventoux accommodation in Puyméras, you can choose from a huge variety of rides. Enjoy easier days exploring the Côtes du Rhône vineyards to the west, or challenge yourself on the legendary climbs of the Baronnies Provençales to the north.
The Baronnies Provençales Regional Natural Park is a true cyclist’s paradise, with dozens of beautifully signposted cols ranging from short climbs such as the Col de Propiac to longer challenges like the Col de Soubeyrand.
Whether you’re looking for a gentle scenic ride, a challenging mountain day, or an unforgettable Mont Ventoux adventure, our local knowledge will help you discover the very best cycling routes in Provence.
Below is a selection of some of our favourite rides.
MONT VENTOUX AND BACK
Distance: 80km approx.
Ride the legendary Mont Ventoux from the classic Tour de France side of Bédoin on this unforgettable route from our Vélo Ventoux base in Puyméras.
The ride starts with a gentle warm-up through the Provençal countryside, including the Col de la Madeleine, before arriving in Bédoin to begin the famous climb of the Giant of Provence.
After conquering Mont Ventoux, enjoy one of the finest descents in cycling down to Malaucène, where there is time for lunch before the final 14km back to Puyméras.
A true Mont Ventoux cycling experience, finishing exactly as it should — with a well-earned drink at Bar Barrys.
THE TOUR DU VENTOUX
Distance: 112km | Elevation: 1,500m
“If Carlsberg did bike rides…” has been said more than once about this unforgettable loop around the Giant of Provence.
This iconic Mont Ventoux cycling route circumnavigates the mountain without climbing it, taking in some of the most spectacular scenery Provence has to offer.
The highlights are the breathtaking Gorges de la Nesque, the stunning Toulourenc Valley and the beautiful landscapes around Sault. A coffee stop in Villes-sur-Auzon and a well-earned lunch stop in Sault are the perfect additions to an incredible day on the bike.
For those with plenty left in the legs, we finish with the challenging Col de Propiac — affectionately known as “Cardiac Hill” — before returning to our base in Puyméras.
One of the ultimate cycling days around Mont Ventoux.
COL D’AULAN – PERCHED VILLAGES AND GORGES
Distance: 82km | Elevation: 1,200m
A stunning ride through the heart of the Baronnies Provençales, taking in quiet roads, perched villages and spectacular mountain scenery.
Highlights include the Col de Fontaube (4.7km at 4%), the beautiful villages of Brantes and Montbrun-les-Bains, breathtaking views of Mont Ventoux’s north face and the Col d’Aulan (8.6km at 3.1%) with its medieval Château d’Aulan.
THE LEGENDARY 10 COLS RIDE
Distance: Approx. 135km | Elevation: 1800m
A Vélo Ventoux cult classic.
A challenging day exploring the incredible roads of the Baronnies Provençales, taking on 10 cols of varying difficulty. The route combines two major climbs — the Col de Soubeyrand (9km at 6% average) and the Col des Roustants (10km at 5%) — with a collection of beautiful shorter climbs including the Col d’Ey, Col Lescou and Col de la Croix Rouge.
A true test of climbing legs and one of our favourite cycling days in Provence.
CLANSAYES – VINEYARDS, LAVENDER AND MEDIEVAL VILLAGES
Distance: 125km | Elevation: 1,300m
For something a little different, head west towards the Rhône Valley on a beautiful ride through vineyards, lavender fields and rolling Provençal countryside.
The route takes in a succession of short climbs through the medieval villages of Réauville, La Garde-Adhémar, Clansayes and Saint-Restitut, with magnificent views across the Rhône Valley and towards the Ardèche.
A longer but relatively gentle ride showcasing another side of Provence beyond the mountains.
THE ALL-TIME FAVOURITE 3 COLS RIDE
Distance: 65km | Elevation: 1,200m
A Vélo Ventoux favourite and one of our most popular rides.
Starting straight from the front door, this classic loop takes in three beautiful climbs: the Col de Propiac (6.2km at 3.4%), the Col d’Ey (5.3km at 6%) and the Col de la Croix Rouge (6.5km at 4.2%).
The highlight is the stunning panorama from the Col d’Ey, with breathtaking views stretching both north and south across the Baronnies Provençales.
A perfect introduction to the incredible cycling right on our doorstep.
BRANTES – ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL LOOPS IN PROVENCE
Distance: 50km | Elevation: 850m
Short but spectacular, this is one of our favourite two-hour cycling loops from Vélo Ventoux.
The route packs an incredible amount of scenery into a relatively short ride, taking in the stunning Col de Fontaube and the Côte de Peyronnière, with breathtaking views across the Toulourenc Valley and the northern face of Mont Ventoux.
A perfect ride for arrival or departure day, or for anyone wanting a shorter route without compromising on scenery.
